Head of Engineering, Lending

We are looking for a strong engineering leader for our fast growing Lending business within the Grab Financial Group.  This person will strive for quality and will shape the strategy and development of the technical roadmap for this organization.

Grab’s lending business under Grab Financial Services Asia (“GFSA”) provides access to transparent and affordable credit that meet the financial needs of the underbanked, mass market consumers & merchants in SEA; delivered in a responsible and sustainable way. It’s part of Grab’s 
array of product and service offerings focused on extension of Micro credit to drivers, users, agents
 and merchants in Grab’s ecosystem, including PayLater and working capital financing, and GFSA takes innovative approaches for loan origination and servicing by leveraging technology and alternative data. GFSA already has operations in 5 markets (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam), and plans to further expand our offerings to customers in Grab’s ecosystem. GFSA team is a combination of a strong talent pool in its
 Regional Hub (Singapore) and deep local market operators across its focus markets. The team is responsible for end to end conceptualization, design,
 development, execution and ongoing management of all lending activities in its focus
 markets and segments.

This role can be based in Singapore or Bangalore, reporting into the CTO of Grab Financial Group

Get to know the Role:

• You will oversee all our lending products across Nano Financing, working capital financing, PayLater, invoice discounting, etc

• You will oversee and continue to grow a sizable team of engineers based in Singapore and Bangalore. You will be growing your teams by thoughtful planning, strategic decision making and using your eye for talent to hire the best engineers and engineering managers.

• As a Head of Engineering,  you put ‘Grab before self’ and make thought-through decisions in the organization’s best interest.

• You drive your teams forward by being objective and supportive, as well as raising the bar continuously by striving for the great delivery and code quality.

• You develop your teams by promoting intellectual rigor, identifying skill gaps and providing training where required.

• You manage and execute against projects and delivery commitments, and develop our mobile strategy and roadmap.

• You manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering teams within an Agile/Scrum environment.

• You collaborate with the business and product teams to achieve Grab’s goals and growth. If you don’t see others’ problems as your problem, you will not thrive here.

The must haves:

• 15+ years of experience in proven leadership roles at complex technical organizations focused on digital and technology services, preferably working in Digital Banking, Lending, Payments and/or other BFSI domain.

• Experience leading successful matrixed organisations with up to 100 or so engineers and driving large-scale projects and products, in collaboration with product, design and commercial teams, to succeed.

• Track record of designing, developing and implementing complex, low-latency, and preferably transaction-based/B2C, mobile applications and/or web services with over one million users. Experience in back-end, architecture and infrastructure, web services. 

• Strong business acumen and are therefore driven to and deliver an optimal user experience.

• BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering; MBA/other relevant graduate degree is a plus.

• Strong communication skills and can act as an advisor, coach, mentor, and partner all at the same time with the demonstrated ability to collaborate with various stakeholders.

• Passion to make a positive impact in Southeast Asia with regards to financial inclusion.
