Head of Engineering, Insurance

Responsibilities

• You will build and manage Grab’s InsurTech stack, from policy origination to claims, payments in to underwriting

• You will work closely with Product and Business teams in building product and engineering roadmaps for Insurance business

• You will engage with partners across Insurance and Technology domains in creating “Insurance as a Service” to be launched across multiple countries and product lines

• As an engineering leader you put ‘Grab before self’ and make thought-through decisions in the organization’s best interest.

• You drive your teams forward by being objective and supportive, as well as raising the bar continuously by striving for the great delivery and code quality.

• You will be growing your teams by thoughtful planning, strategic decision making and using your eye for talent to hire the best engineers and engineering managers.

• You develop your teams by promoting intellectual rigour, identifying skill gaps and providing training where required.

• You manage and execute against projects and delivery commitments, and develop our mobile strategy and roadmap.

• You manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering teams within an Agile/Scrum environment.

• You collaborate with the business and product teams to achieve Grab’s goals and growth. If you don’t see others’ problems as your problem, you will not thrive here.

Requirements

• 10 to 14 years of relevant software development experience in the areas on Insurance, Banking, Payments and other B2C & B2B products/services/content

• Deep, hands-on programming and technical design skills with demonstrated willingness and capability to learn new technologies quickly

• Good knowledge of NoSQL stores such as Cassandra, Voldemort, FoundationDB and caching stores like Redis, MemCached Ability to translate small POCs into mission critical applications, usually requiring going the whole mile - starting with design and architecture all the way to delivery and support transition

• Demonstrated ability to design, build and deliver complex, successful web services and/or customer experiences efficiently and with quality

• Shows team leadership, interpersonal skills and ability to get things done through influence

• Be very technically opinionated and are good at communicating complex technical design choices in a lucid and succinct way to senior management and C-level stakeholders

• Educated on latest developments in the areas of dev-ops and CI/CD, including containerisation, blue-green deployments, 12-factor apps, secrets management etc Managed high-caliber engineering teams across time-zones and regions

• Strong bias for action; ability to juggle multiple priorities and build a sense of urgency in a dynamic environment

• Able to fluently communicate, written and verbal, in English and have basic Chinese skills
