Grab is currently seeking a Database Engineering Lead to lead and develop the team. This position is based in our Cecil Street office in Singapore. As a Database Engineering Lead, you will be driving your teams to out-serve Grab’s customers. Therefore, your high-quality delivery is vital to Grab and our community. Every ‘Grabber’ is equally important and has the ability to directly impact Grab’s success. You will draw on your proven track record to lead, manage, motivate, and grow the Database team, while coordinating the resources.

With over 38 million mobile downloads, we are processing millions of bookings a day and billions of traffic data points per month. The day-to-day activities

• You will oversee, manage and develop the Database teams, who are responsible for monitoring day to day MySQL, PostgreSQL and other OLTP database systems in terms of operations and management

• You prepare the plans and roadmaps for the team, working closely with engineering and operations team in building tooling to drive scalability, reliability and performance

• You will support the team in performing database capacity planning and maintenance, monitoring and performance tuning, and diagnose any database issues and employ measures to prevent recurrence

• Research and develop new technologies and approaches for building highly available data persistence systems

Requirements

• A core function of this role involves attracting, developing, and keeping a world-class engineering team. You would have a proven track record at building strong teams, making them even stronger, and successfully organizing and leading their efforts to deliver excellent results for customers.

• Proven track record with installation, management, upgrades, backup and restore of large MySQL, PostgreSQL and or other OLTP database system installations

• Experience benchmarking, clustering and tuning the databases for performance, reliability, high availability and scalability

• Familiar with a key-value store or data structure database (such as Redis, ElasticSearch et al)

• Experience with AWS RDS / ElastiCache / other AWS Database Services or experience with management of databases in AWS environment will a strong plus

• Deep understanding and real passion for relational database theory and database fundamentals
