Global DevOps Engineer

ZALORA is Asia Pacific's leading group of online fashion destinations. We are expanding our globally-distributed infrastructure team.

What you will do

• Design and implement systems for high-availability
• Streamline development and deployment processes via automation
• PagerDuty rotation a.k.a. owning what we build

What makes the perfect candidate

• At a bare minimum, you have a deep understanding of software development under Linux.
• Exposure to AWS, Bash, functional programming and Nix/NixOS is a plus.
• Of course, exposure to a wide range of other technologies is also a plus.

Perks

• Choice of office in Saigon and Singapore
• No physical presence required if you choose to work remotely
• Company sponsored onsite trips for remote team members (roughly once per year, 2 weeks each, also optional)
• Opensource your code and get recognized for tools you build

Selection

Show us you produce good code and know how to deploy it! Send us:

• A project that you have authored, or
• Code for the task below.

Write a program that provides an HTTP API to store and retrieve files. It should support the following features:

• Upload a new file
• Retrieve an uploaded file by name
• Delete an uploaded file by name
• Bonus point 1: include a NixOS module to provide the API as a service
• Bonus point 2: if multiple files have similar contents, reuse the contents somehow to save space.

You can use any framework or library you are comfortable with. We like Haskell and Nix so it'll be great if you use them, especially Nix. Please note that if you don't have much experience with functional programming, the NixOS bonus point is required.

What we look for in the project:

• Awareness of performance and security implications
• Clean code
• Enough documentation
• Appropriate use of standards and tools
