Software Engineer, Backend (Application Data Security Platform, Data Engineering)

Get to know the team:
The Application Data Security Platform team develops software and services for all of Grab’s engineering teams to help secure access to their business critical data in many different SQL and NoSQL application backends.

Get to know the Role:
This hands-on team develops server-and-client-side tools and services to protect the data stored in database systems like MySql, Postgres, DynamoDB, Cassandra etc and is used by almost every team at Grab.  You'll be working with partner engineering teams to ensure that they can get the data they want, quickly, reliably, and securely while providing authorization and auditing capabilities.

 The day-to-day activities:
-Design, develop, and help maintain the services and tools that are part of the data security platform
-Collaborate across stakeholders such application developers, and department heads to deliver a technical solution that meets their unique needs
-Work with customer teams to define and prototype feature specifications
-Work with infrastructure teams in building and scaling back-end services, as well as performing root cause analysis investigations
-Engage in service capacity and demand planning, software performance analysis, tuning and optimization
-Participate in code and design reviews to maintain our high development standards
-Participate in interview loops to help hire the best engineers in the industry
 

Requirements:
-Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, or equivalent
-At least 2-4 years of experience in commercial software development preferably in large-scale distributed systems
-Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and asynchronous architectures
-Strong understanding of system performance, scaling and availability guarantees
-Hands-on coder who has built backend services that handle high volume traffic
-Expert in at least 1 of the modern languages: Go, C++, Java, Scala or C#
-1+ years of hands-on experience working with database systems (SQL or NoSQL)
-Experience working with a public cloud like AWS, Azure or Google is preferred
-Excellent written communication skills; sharp analytical abilities with proven design skills; able to think critically about growth and stability
