The Privacy engineering team is part of the information security team at Grab and we focus on the problem of keeping our data safe and preserve data privacy for our customers while adapting to the high speed growth of our business and our enormous scale. We are the team focusing on keeping interactions on our platform as simplified as possible using advanced engineering to inherently protect privacy and the data our customers.
Get to know the Role:
You will use your hands-on programming and technical design skills and should be willing to learn new technologies quickly
- You would be designing and building the systems that would have a direct impact on the privacy experience of our customers.
- You will have an opportunity to demonstrate your ability to design, build, and deliver complex, successful web services and/or customer experiences efficiently and with quality
- In this role you will need to display team leadership, use interpersonal skills, and be able to get things done by handling a certain level of ambiguity.
- You should be able to explore some unchartered territories as needed and explore/build solutions based on recent research and open source software.
- You will need to clearly communicate high level strategy and technical details effectively across disciplines, locations, and organizations, including to senior leadership.
- You should display a strong bias for action; ability to juggle multiple priorities and build a sense of urgency in a dynamic environment.
- You should be able to focus on customer experience as a prime driver for the technical design.
The day-to-day activities:
- Collaborate with the product, business, and program management team to be on top of your deliverable.
- Participate in technical and product review meetings.
- Produce high quality and highly scalable designs and implement them a suitable programming language (We prefer GoLang, Kotlin, Java and Objective C)
- Create microservices deployed on cloud infrastructure and develop mobile applications that talk to them.
- Review Code and Design of systems
- Work with SysOps and ad SRE teams to setup suitable infrastructure and CI/CD systems
The must haves:
- Product Building expertise: You have significant experience as a successful software development engineer in large scale, highly available Internet and mobile applications.
- Architecture skills: You know how to build highly scalable, robust, and fault-tolerant services that support our unique rate-of-growth. You stay up-to-date with the latest architectural advancements. You understand how architecture impacts privacy and security.
- Technical ability: You can demonstrate excellent coding ability in one of the following languages. GoLang, Java, Python, Kotlin, C++, Obj-C. You also understand computer science fundamentals, algorithms and data structures.
- Privacy or Security knowledge: You have knowledge and experience in the area of privacy engineering or Security. You can demonstrate deep down understanding of how to protect data and to preserve privacy of data. Experience in working on data anonymization and differential privacy would be a plus.
- Ability to learn quickly: You have a passion for technology and are able to pick up and learn new technological advances very quickly.
- Team Working: History of effectively working with and growing geo-distributed partner teams
- Data Driven: Proven ability to make smart feature versus time-to-market trade-offs; experience using data and metrics to back up assertions of business value.
- A Bachelors/Master’s/PHD: in Computer Science, Mathematics or an equivalent quantitative discipline.
