Senior Data Scientist (Search and Recommendation)

The Ranking and Personalisation team at Grab focuses on personalizing the overall experience for Southeast Asia’s SuperApp. Utilising insights from the different services and data streams from our platform, we build models that allow us to tailor the Grab experience for each and every user of our app. Our team fosters a culture of excellence where we drive delivery of smart and scalable products while implementing cutting edge technology. 

Get to know the Role:

In this role, we are looking for data scientists who will own their project end-to-end, from defining the problem to conducting experiments on their solutions. You will work with different sources of data such as transactions, clickstream, images, text, and time series data to work on problems in the Recommendations, Ranking, and Search domains. You will work closely with Engineering and Product teams to deliver advanced data-driven products.

• Extract insights from massive datasets of clickstream, geospatial-temporal, behavioural, and economic data from millions of consumers and partners across over 65 cities in the region

• Build, deploy, and maintain scalable machine learning pipelines to predict user’s preference with the goal of personalising the Grab experience

• Conduct experiments to test out new recommendation policies to measure and understand their impact

• Work in a cross-functional team to develop AI-driven products to create a personalised user experience

The must haves:

•  2+ years of experience building models for recommendation and search engines

• Ph.D. or Masters in a quantitative field (e.g. Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Operations Research)

• Industry experience in developing and scaling production-grade machine learning, deep learning, or optimization models especially for Recommendations, Ranking, and Search

• Familiarity with some of the following open-sourced data science frameworks: Scikit, Spark, Pytorch, Tensorflow, Keras

• Practical experience in search and ranking frameworks such as ElasticSearch and Lucene is a plus

• Strong communication skills – ability to facilitate team collaboration and communicate to a non technical audience.
