JOB SUMMARY

Work in Casegoods Product Engineering, focusing on materials selection, testing, and optimization for furniture manufacturing.

Responsible for evaluating and selecting materials, supporting performance and durability tests, and ensuring material compliance with quality and safety standards. Collaborate with product designers, engineers, quality teams, and production teams to implement innovative material solutions and improve manufacturing processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Evaluate, select, and support testing of materials for use in furniture manufacturing, considering factors like functionality, aesthetics, durability, and cost-effectiveness.

2. Support performance and durability tests on various materials to assess their suitability for different furniture applications.

3. Analyze material properties (strength, flexibility, durability, etc.) and their responses to various environmental conditions.

3. Develop and implement material testing procedures and protocols in collaboration with the QC team to ensure adherence to industry standards and quality requirements.

4. Collaborate with product designers and engineers to understand product requirements and recommend appropriate materials.

5. Research and stay updated on emerging material technologies and trends in the furniture industry.

6. Identify and implement cost-saving measures related to material selection and usage without compromising product quality.

7. Ensure compliance with relevant safety and environmental regulations related to materials used in furniture manufacturing.

8. Maintain accurate records of material testing data, analysis, and reports in collaboration with the QC Team

9. Work closely with suppliers to ensure timely procurement of materials and address any material quality issues.

11. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance material performance, reduce waste, and optimize manufacturing processes.

12. Perform Other tasks as assigned by the department head.

Job requirement

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

2+ years of experience as a Materials Engineer or a similar role, preferably in the furniture manufacturing industry.

Experience with various material testing methods and equipment.

Practical knowledge of CAD software (e.g., Solidworks, AutoCAD) for material analysis and design.

 

 

Knowledge of

- Strong understanding of material science principles and their application in furniture design and manufacturing.

- Knowledge of different types of materials used in furniture, including wood, paper laminate, PVC Edgeband, hot melt foil, glue and other adhesives, paints, stains, and other finishing materials, metal, plastics, fabrics, foams, and composites.

- Familiarity with various material testing standards (ASTM, ISO, etc.).

- Understanding of furniture manufacturing processes and their impact on material selection.

Skills and Abilities

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate material properties and address technical challenges.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

- Detail-oriented and highly organized in conducting tests and maintaining documentation.

- Proactive and driven to stay updated on industry trends and advancements in materials.
