Lead Software Engineer, Backend (Ads and Data Monetization)

Get to know the team:

The GrabAds serving team is at the core of Grab’s advertising business. The team runs real time distributed systems to make personalized decisions on each ad request from Grab’s massive user base in Southeast Asia.

The day-to-day activities:

• Create and maintain GrabAds backend systems such as ads serving, logging, user datastore, personalization service, analytics pipelines, business dashboard, etc.

• Evaluate and integrate 3rd party services for various purposes, etc.

• Create and integrate ad placements to GrabAds ecosystem.

• Evaluate technology stacks for increasing performance and scalability.

• Collaborate across stakeholders such as data scientists, application developers, and department heads to deliver technical solutions that meets their unique needs

• Write code, unit/integration tests, and design/technical documents, etc.

• Participate in code and design reviews to maintain our high development standards

• Participate in interview loops to help hire the best engineers in the industry

• Take initiatives to grow GrabAds business.

Requirements:

• Bachelor in Computer Science, or equivalent

• At least 5-8 years of experience in commercial software development in large distributed systems

• Strong knowledge in computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and asynchronous architectures

• Hands-on developer who has built backend services that handle high volume traffic

• Strong understanding of system performance and scaling

• Expert in at least 1 of the following languages: Go, C++, Java.  Expertise with multiple languages is strongly preferred

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; sharp analytical abilities with proven design skills; able to think critically about growth and stability

• Experience in launching ML models with modern frameworks, e.g., TensoFlow, in production is a big plus.

• Experience in pipeline development and analytics using tools like Spark, SQL, Notebooks, Python, etc. is preferred.

• Experience in Ads is strongly preferred.

• Experience in tech leading projects is a big plus.
