Get to Know the Role:
The role will be responsible for both the strategy and day-to-day operations of Grab’s Safety function. This is a critical role, requiring a senior leader who is comfortable engaging at all levels of the organisation and across countries where safety standards vary significantly, and implementation of product and technology will require a “hyperlocal approach”.
We expect you to set and be ultimately responsible for a multi-year strategy for Safety at Grab. This includes our Safety Product roadmap, understanding available and future technology to ensure we are continually setting the industry bar for safety and our platform is the safest it can be for our users. You’ll also be responsible for shaping our strategy on how best to engage with Government and Law Enforcement on safety issues and following safety incidents. Day to day, you’ll strive for Operational excellence in all Safety matters and lead the roll-out of new safety product and operational initiatives.
We serve customers in many countries, each with unique safety challenges - we expect you’ll leverage local insights and global best practices to ensure Products are designed to enhance platform safety and then guide various teams through each product implementation.
Manage, build and retain a world-class Safety team across the region
Advocate for Safety needs while being the voice of Safety across Grab
Forge deep connections across Grab - with Operations, User Trust, Product, Design, Engineering, Public Affairs and Data Science teams - by partnering closely with Leadership and Division Heads to articulate and refine our Safety strategy, and to incorporate customer concentric thinking into the product and platform design for Safety
Work with Grab’s leadership to identify strategic priorities, and push the thinking to continue innovating in safety
Represent Grab from time to time with media and industry bodies to discuss safety issues, advocate for high industry standards, and ensure Grab’s mission is supported with clear and understandable safety practices and policies
The day-to-day activities:
Lead cross-functional strategy and discussions and provide direction on safety product, policies and incident response, between Operations, User Trust, Product, Design, Engineering, Public Affairs and Data Science
Establish operational excellence in our safety management processes, decision-making and customer-facing communications.
Manage incident response and investigations teams and processes to help resolve safety issues and determine appropriate courses of action
Analyze safety and related customer-facing data to ensure we are operating in the safest possible way
Set and maintain policies for platform safety, including but not limited to - Incident response, Safety Standards, Driver and Passenger Code of Conduct, Published “Ride guides”, Food and parcel delivery safety standards
Be responsible for insurance strategy related to Grab’s transport, delivery and food business, specifically vendor negotiations, policy implementation and cost/benefit analysis of different insurance cover across Southeast Asia
This role will require frequent travel across Grab’s markets in Southeast Asia
The must haves:
Minimum Bachelor's degree required
At least 10 years work experience, with at least 3 years in a role overseeing one of: digital safety, user trust or physical safety & security
At least 6 years people management experience, including managing leaders and teams remotely across multiple countries
Knowledge of core processes, operations management philosophies and best practices
Demonstrated track record of making data-driven decisions, establishing operational and success KPIs
Proven ability to transition from strategic big picture thinking/planning to implementation at scale and with speed
Exceptional stakeholder management and relationship building skills
Experience addressing safety-related issues
Self-motivated results driven, flexible and customer-focused
Should be a strong team player with thought leader qualities
Existing network of private and public sector contacts a plus
