Get to know the Role:
 

As Head of Engineering, GrabAds, you will build and scale technology teams to support and accelerate the growth of Grab’s advertising business. You will be responsible for all Advertiser-facing products and their corresponding technology stacks and teams, including mobile and web campaign management portals for use by merchants, SMEs and global advertisers and agencies, and supporting systems. You will work closely with teams and business verticals across the company, in multiple countries, to help them succeed with GrabAds in their respective domains. And you will guide your teams in delivering systems and services that meet Grab’s high bar for operational excellence and system stability.

As Head of Engineering, GrabAds, for the technology organization, you will be expected to represent GrabAds both internally and externally in meetings with key customers, vendors, data providers, and other senior leaders both inside and outside Grab. Your deep experience with the global Digital Advertising landscape and relevant technology stacks will enable you to contribute strategic insights and influence the core business direction as the GrabAds business matures. You will be responsible for driving and growing the campaign capabilities for advertisers, both in-app and off-app, including owning the UIs, the advertiser and campaign databases, and the associated backend systems for managing and serving campaigns, including reporting and billing pipelines.



The day-to-day activities:

  • Identifying key areas of investment, including conducting buy vs build evaluations to ensure that Grab is optimizing for velocity.

  • Working with operations teams and product/design to define and execute on a high quality campaign management experience for digital advertisers on the GrabAds platform.

  • Helping define the shape of the organization, including organizing teams handling the reporting and billing pipelines, the central Ads database, and the various campaign UIs.

  • Collaborating with the merchant-experience teams and key Grab business verticals to design and launch campaign flows that make sense for a diverse set of advertisers, ranging from “mom and pop” SMEs up through global QSRs and advertising agencies.

  • Reviewing the design of new or existing systems with scalability, availability and extensibility in mind .

  • Educating others at Grab on the complexities and nuances of the Ads ecosystem, and how it applies specifically to Grab’s customers and marketplace.


The must haves:

  • Deep domain knowledge of the global digital-ads ecosystem with at least 10 years of experience in running advertising tech stacks at scale. You should have reasonably up-to-date knowledge of recent trends and the overall industry direction for digital advertising.

  • Deep understanding of practical computer science, distributed computing, cloud computing (AWS preferred), and modern software engineering best practices.  You should have a coding or ML background, ideally with a computer science degree or equivalent.

  • Experience leading line managers and multiple, large, independent projects simultaneously. Ideally, you have led orgs of at least 40-50 people and have delivered significant business outcomes at that scale.

  • You should preferably have some experience with RDBMS, logical data modeling, and schema design, particularly for domains with three-way marketplaces.  If you have Ads database experience, even better.

  • Experience with leading web or mobile projects is optional but desired, as is experience with analytics and reporting platforms.

  • You should be comfortable leading high-impact cross-functional projects and initiatives in the face of high ambiguity and sometimes-conflicting business goals.
