The Grab Financial Group – Legal Counsel is responsible for providing, legal, regulatory, compliance, governance and contractual advice to the GFG with a focus on Wealth Management and Financial Services. This position focuses on the establishment and operation of the GrabInvest business with particular focus on regulatory matters, contract review and negotiation, and governance matters.

The Grab Financial Group – Legal Counsel shall report directly to the Grab Financial Group Senior Regional Legal Counsel.

Get to know the Role:

Grab is developing its fund management and wealth services business. The ideal candidate will have experience in banking and wealth legal practice, and in particular in dealing with government regulators and negotiating contracts and governance documentation based on the specific requirements of commercial, banking and financial services businesses.

The day-to-day activities:

• Advising on retail and corporate wealth management regulatory licensing and compliance across business units, with an emphasis on banking regulations, marketing, and consumer protection laws related to such products and services.
• Assisting in the development and maintenance of applicable compliance programs;
• Advising on and drafting applicable provisions of agreements with vendors, customers, partners, and consultants;
• Assisting with applicable litigation and claims involving the GFG business;
• Interfacing as necessary with other business support teams within the Group, such as finance, tax, accounting, and human resources;
• Cross-functional work to identify, analyse and mitigate issues related to the introduction of new financial services products and services whilst supporting Grab’s regional expansion, as well as supporting and providing cover for other GFG Legal verticals where needed;
• Researching legal issues and drafting memos as appropriate;
• Provide timely, concise and business-focused legal advice on financial services and  banking laws and licensing requirements;
• Represent Grab’s interests and interface directly with regulatory agencies and external counsel, as appropriate;
• Supports Public Affairs in responding to relevant legislative and regulatory proposals;
• Instruct and manage external advisors and counsel, as necessary;
• Providing legal and regulatory guidance on the products (design and modification), proactively identify associated risks and recommend mitigation strategies, review product user experiences to ensure legal compliance and proper disclosures;
• Working closely with the wealth management regional and country legal teams on regulation and product design;
• Familiarity with the development and implementation of AML/CFT related compliance requirements; and
• Supporting inter-department initiatives and devising of legally compliant financial services products.

The must haves:

• Solicitor admitted to practice in Singapore.
• Corporate, legal and regulatory experience in wealth and fund management and financial services in Singapore.
• Minimum 3 years in private practice with a recognized law firm in Singapore working in financial services and experience working in wealth management divisions of a bank Legal Dept in Singapore.
• 6-8 years PQE experience
