Job Purpose:
The Chief Mate is the second-in-command after the Captain, responsible for deck operations, navigation watch, cargo handling, and safety equipment on board the offshore support vessel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stand bridge watch and navigate the vessel as directed by the Captain.
- Supervise deck operations including mooring, anchoring, loading/unloading cargo or offshore equipment.
- Manage and maintain life-saving and firefighting equipment, deck safety systems, and navigation aids.
- Plan and oversee cargo handling, especially oil & gas equipment (tools, containers, supplies, etc.).
- Lead, assign, and supervise deck crew; ensure safe working practices are followed.
- Maintain voyage logs and submit reports to the Captain.
- Support vessel operations such as ROV support, offshore supply, diving, or rescue operations.
- Assist in the implementation of ISM Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, and other marine safety regulations.
