Backend Engineer, GrabShare

The GrabShare team owns the shared-ride services at Grab, from 2 people sharing a car up to 80 people simultaneously sharing a bus.

This team owns and improves the backend functionality that allows us to serve all the requests for ride sharing, whether it be 1 person spontaneously (“I want to go to the airport - anyone else going there near me?”), 20 people simultaneously (“We’re chartering a bus to take us to the concert”) to everything in-between. You’ll be working closely with the Product teams to choose and then implement the future features for the product, design and run experiments to improve the current features, maintain quality on the existing product, and work with the mobile developers to launch and land.

KEY DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, review and implement features, architectures, APIs, and code, balancing the needs for velocity and impact against those for scalability and reliability.

• Contribute to discussion as to what those features should be and how they should work.

• Collaborate with engineers in other locations many time-zones away

QUALIFICATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• BS in Computer Science, or equivalent

• Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms

• Open to writing full-stack code as needed (HTML/JS)

• Fluent in at least one of Go, C++, C#, Java, Scala, or Kotlin. Willing and able to code in more than one language.

• For more senior levels, experience with backend systems, distributed systems, and scalable systems strongly preferred.
