Job requirement

The Automation Engineer and his team will build or fabricate the hardware including software and networking technologies for Ashton. The Automation engineer will design and build the machines, controls or any hardware, develop from the simple of circuit design to complex system design and see those systems all the way through to high volume manufacturing.

This means building more and more physical automation, industrial robotic systems, automated material handling systems, and tightly integrated control systems into our rapidly-expanding network of data centers. This team will develop a wide variety of semi-automated or fully automated building blocks for our current. They will manage detailed requirements definition and partner with the end user for rollout and implementation. This will also include the planning of validation activities to demonstrate readiness of solutions into mass deployment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

· Understand and develop processes or machine improvements that are automation friendly, including the control systems needed to make them work.

· Troubleshoot control system for complex systems.

· Take ownership of control systems operations.

· Develop material handling control system and robotic if feasible designs and software.

· Analyze domain problems and identify, adapt, and/or develop technologies from the fields of, automated and autonomous systems, and industrial automation to address them

· Document and validate automated processes with domain experts

· Evaluate and develop probabilistic state estimation techniques that are relevant and applicable to decision making automated systems

· Support senior technical team in the creation of a technical roadmap for advanced technologies stack

· Support engineering team in understanding, and oversee correct implementation of chosen technologies

· Support, participate and perform technology transfers from technical collaboration projects in areas of planning under uncertainty, machine learning, and probabilistic reasoning.

· Perform quality inspection on project installation, machine inspection in accordance to the approved specifications and standards.

· Prepare and compile standard operating procedures of machine operation and maintenance.

· Responsible in continuous training of operation and maintenance in the use of Wanek approved reference standards and policies.

· Manage all machine fabrications or new hardware.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Direct the activities of the buildup automatic technology to ensure proper apply and operation of all new equipment and system:

  1. System Design & Implementation
    • Design and develop automated systems for material handling, sorting, packaging, and inventory management.
    • Select and integrate hardware (e.g., conveyors, robotics, sensors) and software (e.g., PLCs, SCADA, WMS).
  2. Process Optimization
    • Analyze current warehouse workflows to identify inefficiencies.
    • Implement automation solutions to reduce manual labor, improve throughput, and minimize errors.
  3. Maintenance & Troubleshooting
    • Perform routine maintenance on automation equipment.
    • Diagnose and resolve system malfunctions or breakdowns promptly.
  4. Programming & Configuration
    • Develop and maintain control logic using PLCs, HMIs, and other industrial automation platforms.
    • Configure and calibrate sensors, actuators, and other control devices.
  5. Integration & Testing
    • Integrate automation systems with existing warehouse management systems (WMS) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
    • Conduct system testing and validation to ensure performance and reliability.
  6. Data Analysis & Reporting
    • Monitor system performance using data analytics tools.
    • Generate reports to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
  7. Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure all automation systems comply with safety regulations and standards.
    • Implement fail-safes and emergency protocols.
  8. Collaboration & Training
    • Work closely with operations, IT, and maintenance teams.
    • Train warehouse staff on using and interacting with automated systems.

Job requirement

QUALIFICATIONS

1.     Education: Bachelor of Science in Automation Engineering, or in related technical field of study or equivalent experience required. Related technical courses, vendor training, and company specific courses desirable

2.     Experience

  • At least 05 years of progressively responsible and professional experience for designing automation, robotics, control software, mechanical system
  • Experience in wood working machines and furniture manufacturing industry is preferred.
  • Hands-on mechanical, electrical, mechatronic and electronic experience required
  • Experience utilizing computerized maintenance systems required.

3.     Skills and Abilities

·       Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley)

·       Knowledge of robotics, machine vision, and industrial networking

·       Experience with WMS and ERP integration

·       Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

·       Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies

This position involves working in general manufacturing conditions where there are continuously moving mechanical parts. These conditions also include working in an area where airborne particles and/or finishing fumes are present, along with continuous loud noise from the manufacturing processes involved in creating wooden parts to engineering specifications. None of these conditions are present to the point of being disagreeable.
